American Vogue Is Dying

Social media has ruined the magazine experience that fashionistas used to crave for every month, a healthy competition between the glamorous fashion magazines on new-stands fighting for your attention with tips and exclusive campaign pictures. Editors were the influencers and American Vogue was thriving. Catwalk shows used to be held twice a year for selected editors and buyers, where designers would reveal their carefully curated vision of beauty to them. Now runway shows are live-streamed and consumers can order the clothes as soon as they have appeared.

So what's Vogue's power in such a social media driven generation?

The glossy magazine doesn’t have the power it once did. While Vogue transports the reader to a fantasy world of high fashion – in much the same way watching a film offers an escape from the everyday – and is still seen by many as the supporter of high-end style, the magazine’s influence has unarguably trickled away.

In its fight to catch up with instagram bloggers and influencers, American Vogue seems to have began to post an irresponsible amount of space filler-like posts; Similar to a gossip or tacky instagram page it features anyone eye catching with Daily Mail like captions, how did we get here? I think my high expectations of the magazine has reasonably been killed and transferred to excitement and fan-girly love for British Vogue's Edward Enninful.

Maybe it'll get better.
